What is Qi Gong?

The word Qi is usually translated as ‘vital life force’ or ‘energy’ and the word Gong means work or cultivation. So on a basic level, Qi Gong is the practice of the cultivation of vital life force. (Qi Gong, pronounced CHEE GUNG, also can be spelled Chi Kung or Chi Gong.)

Chinese/Daoist Medicine teaches that disease is caused by your disharmony with universal and natural cycles. Qi Gong is an ancient Chinese/Daoist energetic system of wellness that arose from the study of the interconnected cycles of nature, humans, and the universe.

For the ancients, Qi Gong was a natural way of being and completely embedded in their lives. In the modern world, Qi Gong is a healing practice that fosters harmony, balance and well-being by reconnecting you with the vital life force of nature’s cycles. Regular practice releases toxins from your body/mind allowing you to return to your whole or healed state.

Qi Gong and Movement

Qi Gong practitioners use forms of movement sequences to study the intricacies of larger universal cycles. These forms may mimic the cycles of nature, or the movements of animals or natural elements. Forms also involve meditation, visualization, sounds or mantras, and specific breathing techniques. Practice is done with clear intent and purposeful sensory awareness practices.

Qi Gong has ancient Daoist, Buddhist, Five Element, Five Organ Spirit, and other philosophies embedded in it. These philosophies have existed for several thousand years and are the basis for Chinese/Daoist Medicine.

The study of the same universal cycles can be refined for defensive purposes as is done in Tai Chi and other Chinese martial arts. A self-aware practice of any of these internal martial arts can lead to the same return to harmony and self-healing.

Healing Qi Gong

Healing Qi Gong is a form of Qi Gong that focuses specifically on health and wellness. Special types of forms are practiced at specific times of the day or during specific seasons in order to more clearly address specific diseases/imbalances. As a trained Healing Qi Gong practitioner, I also can use energetic hands-on technique to help enhance your practice.

Regular Qi Gong practice can help you feel both calm and energetic, as well as improve your flexibility, balance and posture. It creates harmony in your body/mind. With regular practice, you can cultivate an internal self-awareness that helps you create a more fully embodied vital life.
